Sicily is a very beautiful island. Awesome landscapes, warm clear water of the Mediterranean Sea, long sandy beaches and fresh seafood, fantastic architecture and smiley people – are waiting for you in Sicily.

1. The Mount Etna on Sicily is a highest active volcano in Europe. Its high is 3,329 m.

2. The very first sonnet was the product of the Sicilian poet Giacomo da Lentini. This sonnet was created in the early 13th century. The work has spread from Sicily to Tuscany. Later, it was made famous worldwide by the next generation of great poets such as Petrarch and Dante Alighieri, the famous author of The Divine Comedy. From Italy, the sonnet was introduced in England, where was widely used by William Shakespeare.

3. The World-famous ancient mathematician Archimedes was born in Sicily, in Syracuse.

4. In Sicily, there was a tradition to steal brides and to hide them somewhere for three days, after which no one could prevent to marry her (even the girl herself could not prevent to marry her).
